About KVK
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dholpur was established in the year 17thAugust 1992 by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi under Rajasthan Agriculture university, Bikaner. Since 13th September 2013 working are under Umbrella of Sri Karan Narendra Agriculture University, Jobner (Jaipur) with the motto of transfer of technology in Dholpur district. KVK has total 21.1 ha land in which area under crop is 7.0 ha. Orchards and agro forestry developed in 2.0 ha building & roads in 1.0 ha, under demonstration units 1.0 ha and remaining 8.0 ha area is barren land. The farmers’ hostel has three dormitories having a capacity to accommodate 60 farmers during training with mess facility. The Youth’ hostel has three dormitories one-office room with storeroom also having a capacity to accommodate 60 farmers during training. The KVK has a vehicle Bolero and supper splendor bike for field activities i.e. for organizing field days, diagnostic visit, off campus training and visiting villages and farmers at field. It also has a tractor with necessary equipment for fieldwork. The KVK is also equipped with latest information technology tools i.e. Computers and laptops with printer and broadband connection for 24 hour connectivity to the internet, an Overhead Projector, an LCD with Screen, multimedia capabilities and a Multi-function photo copier/Fax machine. One Shed net/green houses are also established at the KVK farm under which different plants are prepared in the model nursery.
The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dholpur is an innovative first line science based transfer of technology project, functioning under the auspicious guidance of the ICAR, State Govt. of Rajasthan & Sri Karan Narendra Agriculture University, Jobner. KVK has been established for the transfer of latest & proven technologies in Agriculture & Allied fields in order to increase the productivity, potentials & to bridge the time lag between technologies generation at the research institutions & its transfer to the farmers’ fields. It aims to increase self-employment, opportunities among farmers, farmwomen & rural youths.
Location
- Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dholpur is located at Ondela Road, RIICO Industrial Area, Dholpur. Which is approx. 2.5 km away from district headquarter.
Functional Objectives
- Planning and conducting survey of the operational area in order to prepare the resource inventory with special reference to identifying the training needs of the farming community.
- Planning and conducting production-oriented, need-based short and long duration training courses both on campus as well as in the villages for various target groups i.e. farmers, farm-women, school-drop outs, rural youth and extension functionaries.
- Developing and organizing non-formal educational programmes by way of field days, farm visits, farmers fair, radio talk, Farm Science clubs etc. as the follow up information support to training courses.
- Organizing farm science clubs, both in rural schools and in villages in order to induce in younger generation a liking for and an interest for agricultural and allied sciences and scientific farming through supervised projects.
- Developing and maintaining the campus farms and demonstration units on scientific lines as the facilities for providing work experience to the trainees as also disseminating the latest technical know how.
- Implementing all such schemes of the ICAR and other related organizations which intend to strengthen the training programmes of the Kendra.
The Mandate of the KVK is TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT, REFINEMENT AND DEMONSTRATION
- Conducting on-farm testing to identify the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming systems
- Organizing frontline demonstrations to establish its production potentials of various technologies on the farmers’ fields
- Conducting need based training of farmers to update their knowledge and skills in modern agricultural technologies
- Conducting training of extension personnel to orient them in the frontier areas of technology development
- Work as knowledge and resource centre of agricultural technology for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector for improving the agricultural economy of the district.
- In addition, in order to speed up the process of dissemination of technology, a large number of various extension activities and production of seeds and planting materials are taken up by the KVK.
- Organize cluster front line demonstrations and front line demonstrations on major cereals, oil seeds, & pulses crops and other enterprises related to Agriculture to generate production data & feedback information.
- Plan and construct in-service trainings for field functionaries to update them with emerging advances in Agricultural areas.
- Organizing short and long-term training courses in agriculture and allied vocations for the farmers and rural youths with emphasis on “Learning by doing” for higher production on farms and generating self-employment.
- Organizing training to update the extension personnel with emerging advances in agricultural research on regular basis.
Major Thrust Area
- Considering the agro climatic condition, available resources, production potential in the district and the need of the farming community, the thrust areas were identified by the team of KVK in consultation with research scientists of the zone.
- Training & demonstration programme for farmers & farmwomen, rural youth to increase socio-economic status.
- Increase productivity of cereals, oilseeds and pulses through popularizing latest technologies.
- Introducing diversification through cultivation of potato, hybrid vegetables and fruits eg. Ber, Anola and Citrus.
- Improvement in nutrition and better management of livestock and popularizing the high yielding cross breeds.
- Introducing and popularizing of organic farming, bio fertilizer and Bio-agent to improve the soil health and to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers.
- Organize training for extension of field functionaries to increase their knowledge regarding innovative technologies.
- Dissemination of concept of agro-forestry and soil conservation technologies to the farmers field.
- Up-liftman of socio-economic status of last man in the last row through vocational training.
- To increase and sustain the productivity of different crops by seed treatment for controlling pests & diseases, plant protection measures and fertilizer, water and weed management.
- To improve breed status of local Murrah Buflow.
- To organize training programmes rural youth to develop entrepreneurship dairy farmer and mushroom grover under ASCI.
- To popularize azolla cultivation among farming community for supplementary feeding of livestock.
- To popularized minal mixture for milch animal and distribution in animal health camp.
